Diane Sandmeyer was born September 27, 1948, in St. James to parents Bernard “Ben” and Elvera “Vera” (Nelson) Sandmeyer. She was one of two children her older sister, Eunice, died in infancy. She was a proud student attending District 28 country school with many of her cousins. She graduated from St. James High School in 1966 and went on to attend classes at Mankato State University. She married Gary Missling on September 18, 1971. They lived in Brooklyn Center where they started their family. In 1977, they relocated back to St. James on the Sandmeyer family farm and began their farming career together. Diane was a dedicated mother and farm wife - supporting her family in all that they did. Diane was the church secretary for 18 years at Augustana Lutheran Church where she was also the treasurer and active in many groups. Diane farmed alongside Gary. Tillage, cultivating and coordinating errands, kept the operation running like a good business should. She loved her four boys and the daughters she inherited. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she cherished the times she could cook and bake their favorite things. Diane was one of those people that listened to Christmas music from June to May and didn’t care what people thought about it.
