Saints Soar Out of the Gate in League Victory
The St. James Area girls basketball team opened a 20-point lead early and wrapped up a 69-37 Big South Conference triumph over the BEA Buccaneers. The Saints were led by Madelyn Malmgren and Taylor Sodeman, scoring 22 and 21 points respectively.

Gary Missling, 80, of St. James died on January 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System - St. Mary’s in Rochester. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church- St. James. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. The clergy will be Rev. Mandy France. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, in St. James at a later date. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. On April 13, 1942, Gary Willis was born to Willis and Ardath (Falknor) Missling in Mankato. Gary was a farm boy through and through raising sheep and rabbits near Good Thunder. He attended St. John Lutheran School in Good Thunder and completed his education in Mapleton, graduating in 1960. On May 20, 1955, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church. He answered Uncle Sam’s call into the military on February 25, 1964. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash. with the Military Police Division of the Army and was honorably discharged on February 25, 1966. Following his release from his military obligation, he was employed by Scientific Computers in Minneapolis.

Wrestling Taps Into Trifecta at Springfield

The St. James Area Saints wrestling team battled tough opponents throughout the opening portion of the season and have been road warriors, wrestling away from home most of those meets. Entering the quadrangular at Springfield on January 10th, the team had one win. When they left they had three more, beating Wabasso, Madelia, and Springfield.
Mirror Margins Mark Big South Tour for Boys Basketball
The Saints boys hoops squad played a pair Big South Conference road games, losing by 21 points to both BEA and Redwood Valley. Bennett Flohrs was a leading scorer for both games, followed closely by Brennan Kern.

2023 Big South Wrestling Tournament Dominated by Jackson County Central

The Huskies of JCC sent nine wrestlers to the finals and captured seven individual titles at the 2023 BSC tournament in Pipestone on Saturday, January 14th. St. James finished ahead of Windom/ Mt. Lake in the team standings and only a few points behind Blue Earth Area and Luverne.
Wrestlers Travel to Waseca and Bluejays Stave Saints Surge
The Saints were shorthanded but mounted a strong effort at Waseca on January 12th in a 45-30 Big South Conference match. Beck Johnson, Levi Miest, Hayden Davis, and Willie Curry all delivered pins for St. James Area.
Danceline Schedule Features High Mileage

The St. James Saintettes Danceline continues to compete, including a meet at Lac Qui Parle HS, the Big South Conference Showcase in Marshall on January 14th, and an upcoming trip to Granite Falls for a meet at Yellow Medicine East High School on January 21st.
