Gary Missling
Gary Missling, 80, of St. James died on January 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System - St. Mary’s in Rochester. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church- St. James. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. The clergy will be Rev. Mandy France. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, in St. James at a later date. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. On April 13, 1942, Gary Willis was born to Willis and Ardath (Falknor) Missling in Mankato. Gary was a farm boy through and through raising sheep and rabbits near Good Thunder. He attended St. John Lutheran School in Good Thunder and completed his education in Mapleton, graduating in 1960. On May 20, 1955, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church. He answered Uncle Sam’s call into the military on February 25, 1964. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash. with the Military Police Division of the Army and was honorably discharged on February 25, 1966. Following his release from his military obligation, he was employed by Scientific Computers in Minneapolis.

The Saints were shorthanded but mounted a strong effort at Waseca on January 12th in a 45-30 Big South Conference match. Beck Johnson, Levi Miest, Hayden Davis, and Willie Curry all delivered pins for St. James Area.

Pancake Breakfast supports museum

Watonwan County Historical held its Pancake Breakfast on Sunday. In the 4 hours the breakfast ran, 170 people stopped by for some pancakes and to support the society.
Cascade of First Half Points Buries Saints at Windom

An outburst rarely seen at any level, the Windom Eagles put up 78 points in the opening half on January 6th and rolled on to a 115-76 victory over the St. James Area boys basketball team. The Saints were led by Brennan Kern and Anthony Slettas scoring 17 points apiece.
Wrestlers Win By Criteria in Dual Match With Wabasso

St. James Area traveled to Wabasso on January 5th for a triangular with the Rabbits and the Benson Braves. A close match through, a deadlocked score led to a decision in favor of the Saints for Ethan Hildebrandt’s first career victory as a head coach.
Saints Drop 47-43 Decision at Waterville in Physical Game
A rescheduled game was a battle between St. James Area and Waterville- Elysian-Morristown, coached by SJHS alum Ty Kaus, on January 9th with the host Dragons capturing a close victory. The Saints played hard throughout but had difficulty making up for a large gap in free throws shots awarded.
Parents are People Too
I consider myself extremely fortunate. Both parents, whom I love, are still living. Along with three brothers, we all grew up healthy, fed well with clothes that didn’t have holes or rips. Holes and rips were not in fashion back then.
