Rosie’s Quilt to benefit Relay for Life

The Watonwan County Relay For Life committee often has the opportunity to visit with individuals who are willing to share their journey with their battle against cancer. Our conversation with Rosie Winters, who is a very young 91-year-old, 66 year resident of Odin, was not only inspiring to talk with but also gave the Relay For Life committee a huge opportunity to raise money for cancer research.

4-H youth attend Camp at Lake Shetek

In June, 4-H youth from across southwest Minnesota gathered for MN 4-H Camp at Lake Shetek. Over 150 campers who just completed grades 3-6 spent 3 days and two nights. The two camp sessions were led by a team of 20 high school youth leaders serving in the role of camp counselor, and supported by a team of 4-H educators.

Food and Friends – a community food truck event

Give yourself a break from meal planning and treat yourself to something from area food truck vendors at the “Food and Friends” food truck event on Wednesday, July 13, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the main parking lot of First Lutheran Church (719 6th Avenue South). “Food and Friends” is a community event organized by the church’s Outreach Board to invite all in the community to gather together around a meal time, and, at the same time, support some of the food vendors in our area. “We hope that folks will enjoy socializing with each other – visiting with old friends, and making new friends,” commented one of the event organizers.

St. Paul’s to install Pastor

On Sunday, July 10, Seminary Graduate Jacob Schlomer will be ordained and installed into the Public Ministry as the Pastor of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church and School in St. James. First Lutheran Church honors pastors

Pastor Andrew Hermodson-Olsen of First Lutheran Church, St. James, celebrated the 35th Anniversary of his Ordination on Sunday, June 19. On Sunday, June 26 the congregation wished Pastor Matthew Seegert and family farewell and Godspeed, as he has been called to serve at Atonement Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
