Archery lane coming to St. James; location approved by city council
The St. James city council met for its meeting on Tuesday, March 4. An ordinance amendment to change the search warrant to a court order in the Public Nuisance ordinance was proposed at the previous city council meeting. Approving the second reading of the resolution for the ordinance started the meeting on Tuesday night, council members approved the second reading.

Senior Citizen Birthday; happy 100th birthday Audrey Schmidtke
Audrey Schmidtke was born March 19.1925 in Springfield. She is one of the most beautiful and kind people you will ever meet. This ‘special lady’ has lived in St. James for 59 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Howard (coach and teacher) and were married for 74 years until his passing in 2018. Today, Schmidtke still lives in her home with help from her beautiful family.

Watonwan County 4-H Pollinator Ambassadors Receive the State AMC 4-H Community Leadership Award
The Watonwan County 4-H Pollinator Ambassadors were recognized as one of two groups in Minnesota to receive the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) 4-H Community Youth Leadership Award. The group attended the AMC Luncheon in St. Paul on February 27, where members Haidyn Robertson and Mariella Sill gave a presentation on their project, the “Meadowlark Prairies Pollinator Pathway.” In addition to receiving a plaque, the group was awarded $500 to further support their project.

Caroline Porter an artist from Fairmont will be offering a watercolor class in St. James through Community Education on March 25. She has been creating art that has given her the feeling of being home for as long as she can remember.

Strong winds blows dock 50 feet
Watonwan County, especially St. James, experienced extreme winds on Friday, Feb. 28. The National Weather Service said Watonwan County experienced gusts in the 50 to 60 MPH range. In the early afternoon, Watonwan County experienced strong winds that caused trees to lose branches and unsecured objects to be blown around.
