There’s snow better time to read
Watonwan County libraries are starting its winter reading program this week. From January 3 to February 25, kindergartners to adults can participate in the program.
Bivalent COVID-19 booster available at Mayo Clinic Health System for children 6 months and older
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently expanded use of the new bivalent COVID-19 booster vaccines to children 6 months–5 years old. Appointments for the Pfizer booster can now be made at Mayo Clinic Health System for this age group by accessing Patient Online Services or calling your primary care provider.

All Watonwan Sheriff’s Department cruisers will have AEDs
Needing an AED for a family member or oneself is never in a person’s plan when they are at home or traveling. Watonwan County Sheriff’s Department, with the help of Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, now has an AED in every squad car in case the need arises.

And, I gotta say, as a child, it always exciting to go someplace with dad. His exuberance was never lacking as he whistled while he worked, waved at passersby along the highways, and looked forward to any adventure on the horizon.

Van Sickle retires and Asmuses become full owners of Sturm Funeral Homes
The new year can bring exciting changes in our lives. 2023 will bring exciting changes in the lives of our owners of Sturm Funeral Homes, Jay Van Sickle, and Justin Asmus. On December 30, 2022, Jay will officially retire and sell his ownership of the business to Justin and Jennifer Asmus. Jay has been with Sturm Funeral Homes since 1994 when he moved to Sleepy Eye to manage the funeral home. Justin joined the funeral home in 2000 in Springfield after completing his education at the University of Minnesota. Jay and Justin purchased 6 funeral homes including Sleepy Eye, Springfield, St. James, Mt. Lake, Comfrey, and Lamberton from Ron and Sharon Sturm in 2004. In 2009, they acquired and merged Pease Funeral Home in St. James and in 2011, they purchased Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia.
