Bill prohibiting boys from playing in girls sports
A plan that would prevent boys in Minnesota from playing in girls’ sports received a full House floor debate this week. State Representative Marj Fogelman (R-Fulda) voted yes on the bill.

Take STEM home with St. James Library new STEM Kits
Introducing kids to STEM at an early age has been happening in St. James for a few years now at Northside Elementary and 4-H. The St. James Library is the newest place in town for kids to get into STEM with its new STEM Kits. Assistant Director Melissa Haseman found out about a grant through the State Library System, which helps libraries circulate STEM Kits. St. James recently received a grant from The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to create and circulate its own STEM Kits.
City council amends nuisance ordinance
The St. James City Council met on Tuesday, Feb, 18. The council approved an ordinance change to the public nuisance ordinances. At the beginning of 2024, the city revised the public nuisance ordinance ordinances since then the city found an area in need of language change. The area of the ordinance in need of language change is section C2 of Authority to Obey and Remedy, what it says now is to obtain a search warrant to enter the property. The city wants to convert the language to a court order to enter the property.

Kids celebrate 100 days of school
Students at Northside Elementary, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and Butterfield-Odin celebrated their 100th day of school on February 11. Students at Northside and St. Paul’s celebrated by having fun with counting activities. At Butterfield-Odin Mrs. Becker’s kindergarten class had a visit from Grandma Becker.

The St. James Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos on Saturday, April 12 at 225 Event Center. Tickets are being sold at Pioneer Bank and True Value, or online at Deuces Wild.

School board hears ways students are learning to read at Northside
The St. James school board held its meeting this month on Monday, Feb 10. Northside Principal Liam Dawson and Literacy Lead Michele Chapin presented the science of reading to review what helps students learn to read based on science and studies done. They discussed how each curriculum teachers have been training on, like LETRS, Wit and Wisdom, and UFLI have been working with the areas of reading to help students.
