How a broken sconce “changed” my life
It’s the beginning of my favorite season of the year…football season. You thought I was going to say autumn? I am a huge fan, but I love me some football, at all levels. As some of you know, I’m a Green Bay Packer fan and this last week was tough to watch against that other team that most of you like. My fandom of the Pack has evolved over the course of the last 21 years, and it’s no coincidence that that timeline coincides with the number of years I’ve been married to my amazing wife. One of her first forays into this passion of mine happened when I was upset with a play and I spiked a little football I was holding off the ground, bouncing up to a sconce that promptly broke, and off of the TV (which didn’t break as it was a box, not the flatscreens that are common today). She promptly stated, “Yeah, you need to fix that.” As we go deeper into our relationship, she notices that my mood for the week is directly related to the outcome of the previous Packer game. Being the amazing wife that she is, restates, “Yeah, you need to fix that.” Like all amazing wives, she was right.
