St. James Organizes Benefit for Garza Family
Several organizations are working together for a brunch and silent auction benefit on Sunday, May 21st for the Jessie Garza family. Jessie, an Iraq veteran, and his wife Liz live with their family outside of St. James and Jessie is rehabilitating after an illness caused paralysis.
The St. James EDA Announces Recognition of 2023 Economic Development Week
The international event will highlight local efforts to increase the quality of life in every community over the course of May 8 to May 12, 2023 St. James, MN – St. James EDA marks the week of May 8 to May 12, 2023, as Economic Development Week. During this week, communities across North America celebrated and recognized the contributions made by professional economic developers to create more economically vibrant and livable communities.

Mayor update
Who else is ready for a “real” spring season to begin? April turned out to be an unexpected weather month, but I guess we do live in Minnesota! May will be a month of blooming flowers, green grass, and numerous celebrations across schools and Church activities.

Local businesses recognized
Last Monday the St. James Salutators visited five local businesses to recognize them for becoming a part of the community, remodeling they did, and moving to a new location.

Traveling the world with art
“Tammi Samuelson and I were talking about how we could make a unique art class that would be distinctly different from an Intro to Art or a simple Art 101 type class,” said Jayesun Sherman about the new Cultural Art class he teaches at Butterfield- Odin. “After brainstorming, we hit on the ethnic/cultural piece, Cultures from around the world.”
City Council approves new roof quotes
Butterfield City Council met for its monthly meeting on Monday, May 8. It started as a closed meeting during which Greg Burkhadt from Burkhardt and Burkhardt talked over the city’s 2022 audit. Council members approved the 2022 audit.
St. James School board approves gymnastics cooperative with Madelia and 2023-24 athletic fees
May’s St. James School Board meeting was held on May 8. It was a business-as-usual meeting with policies and budgets being approved. There was one item that students from Madelia and St. James will be looking forward to next year, that is a gymnastics cooperative was discussed.
