Senior Citizen Birthday; happy 100th birthday Audrey Schmidtke
Audrey Schmidtke was born March 19.1925 in Springfield. She is one of the most beautiful and kind people you will ever meet. This ‘special lady’ has lived in St. James for 59 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Howard (coach and teacher) and were married for 74 years until his passing in 2018. Today, Schmidtke still lives in her home with help from her beautiful family.

Kern breaks 1,000 and Saints break Cedar Mountain hearts
The SJA boys basketball team has a habit they don’t want to break, defeating teams with outstanding records. Along with Brennan Kern joining the 1,000 Point Club, St. James beat a 15-2 Cedar Mountain team 67-63 on February 3rd.

Pond racing took over Butterfield Lake again after two years of poor ice conditions
Winter may not have come as much as most snowmobilers would have liked for being able to enjoy the trails. One group of snowmobilers, once after three years of trying had the conditions they needed on Butterfield Lake to do what they enjoy.

Gary Paulsen’s book ‘Hatchet’ is sometimes people’s first introduction to extreme settings and survival. These themes may make people wonder how humans survive, against the odds. Northside students have read ‘Hatchet’ and had Alex Messenger visit to talk about his experience surviving against the odds.

History is made at Belle of the Border Tournament
St. James High Schoolâs Event Center was full of wrestling teams and fans for the Belle of the Border girls wrestling tourney on January 4th. Two dozen teams from both Iowa and Minnesota, totaling 250 wrestlers, competing for trophies and medals.

Arrows fly straight through Saints
St. James hosted another Big South Conference basketball doubleheader on January 7th with Pipestone carrying both contests, 66-50 in the girls game and 72-49 in the boys game.
