Climate Smart St. James hosts solar panel information sessions
In response to the growing interest in using solar energy for businesses, farms, and homes Climate Smart St. James is offering two information sessions on solar installations open to the public on Wednesday, May 24 at the meeting room in the Watonwan County Library.

Procrastination does not stop once you finish school, I’m saying while sitting waiting for the Rotary Senior Awards Breakfast to start. Is there a little irony in this picture? Let’s go with yes, but I’m not a pro at picking up on irony.

It Makes You Wonder
You really don’t expect things to turn out as planned all the time but every once in a while you see something happen that is downright shocking. If you are just a spectator, you can wonder how somebody just did what you witnessed.

Butterfield-Odin FFA celebrates great first year
It’s been 30 years since Butterfield-Odin celebrated an FFA banquet. That is until Friday night when the 2022-23 year of FFA was celebrated with chapter members, their families, and chapter sponsors.

Comparing and determining the “best of” never gets old, at least in the sense that whoever gets to make the final call is likely going to be from a more recent crowd. Then again, who really cares?

Mr. Wendt’s Class collected the most for the Northside Food Drive
The Northside Student Leadership completed their food drive for this year with great success. The students donated 1961 items of food , which is approximately 1505 pounds of food. The Winning classroom with the most items was Mr. Wendt’s classroom with 340 items. Great job Northside. Pat Kirchner

Shout out to nurses and teachers
Two amazing career fields are being recognized this week, and both of them shape people’s lives in different ways. Happy National Teachers and Nurses Appreciation Week. Thank you for all you do for people in the St. James community or wherever you work.
Poppy Day
Dear Veteran Supporters, The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedom.

You May or May Not Like it But May is Here
After what has seemed like a never-ending winter, the month of May is finally upon us and with it, hope to truly believe in a spring and possible summer. A full slate of designated days are off and running with May Day, along with Lei Day in Hawaii, on the 1st, followed by Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day, National Maritime Day, Victoria Day in Canada, and Memorial Day.

May is Mental Health Month
In my column last week you all heard about the issues I was having over the weekend. Update for you all our basement is no longer flooded, we needed a new sump pump, and my voice is back. Mixed emotions about my car though it is in the shop still being looked over, Dillon has been talking with the mechanic about what is happening so fingers crossed it all gets figured out.
