Watonwan County Relay for Life Kickoff event
The Watonwan County Relay for Life committee held their annual Kickoff event, Sunday, May 22, at the St. James American Legion. Along with great food and a great crowed of people who came and supported the cause, the committee also introduced this year’s Co-Chair for the 2022 Relay for Life Event, Erika Rodriguez.

Champs are Crowned with 3-0 Conference Showdown at New Ulm on May 21st
A scoreless game gave way to a 3-run 6th inning for St. James Area and New Ulm was unable to catch up to a masterful Addie Bowers dealing 19 strikeouts and holding the BSC big school foe hitless. Mackenzie Christensen continued to be the hottest hitter for SJA, in the biggest game, picking up RBIs to power the the 3-0 win on May 21st.

Section Playoffs Kick Off With 11-0 Blitz of Sibley East
Little time was needed for St. James to dispose of the Sibley East Wolverines during a 11-0 first round playoff game on May 23rd. St. James Area pounded out thirteen hits in the win with one error and eight left on base. Next up for SJA, another home contest on Thursday, May 28th, with a 5:00 start time against Belle Plaine.

No-Hitter Highlights Saints Trip to Mankato Tournament
St. James Area opened the Mankato Loyola Tournament at ISG Field on May 21st with a 10-2 loss to Cleveland but rallied for a 11-0 win on the back of a no-hitter by senior Connor Jones. Jones went the distance, struck out sixteen St. Clair batters and was an error and a base on balls away from a perfect game.
MCW’s Middle Innings Squeeze Out Enough for Win Over St. James Area
On May 19th St. James Area hosted Martin County West and gave up a pair of runs in both the 4th and 5th innings to the Mavericks in a 4-1 loss. The Saints could only muster four hits in the game with Tanner Olson leading the way, finishing 2-3 with a run scored, a stolen base, and a base on balls. Hunter Stevens and Sonny Heil were each 1-3 for the game to wrap up hitting for SJA.
Saints lose in first round of Section 2A team tournament
In the last week the Saints boys tennis team saw the section 2A team tournament and some more regular season play with a weekend tournament. Last Tuesday the Saints played a strong meet against Fairmont taking it 6-1.
Christensen’s Batting Keys Home Victory Over Buccaneers
Mackenzie Christensen collected three hits and drove in five runs for St. James Area in a 10-0 five-inning win over Blue Earth Area on May 19th. Pitching credit went to Addie Bowers with the complete game shutout that included ten strikeouts and one walk and two hits.
Bowers Blanks Fairmont in Five Innings
A half dozen Saints, led by Eva Romsdahl, collected multiple hits in a short amount of time on a road trip to Fairmont on May 20th. Jaelyn Haler also knocked out three hits and piled up three runs batted in while Addie Bowers recorded the complete game shutout no-hitter with thirteen strikeouts, ending the game one batter short of a perfect game.
Qualifying Meet on the Horizon After Fairmont Meet
St. James Area track athletes tuned up for the upcoming Section 2A North Subsection meet in Mapleton on May 26th with a quadrangular meet at Fairmont on May 17th.
