The Bucs stop here with Saints win
The St. James Area girls posted another Big South Conference victory at home on February 15th as they beat Blue Earth Area 81-45. Eleven different players scored during the game with 19 points by Journey Swanson’s 19 points leading the way.
Late basket lifts Saints girls over Waseca
A slow shooting night failed to halt St. James Area as they pulled out a comeback win on the road with a 52-49 Big South Conference victory at Waseca on February 14th. Reese Malmgren hit the game-winner and also led the Saints with 16 points, joined in double figures by her sister as Madelyn Malmgren scored 13 points.
JCC beats SJM, earns 5th straight trip to state
The St. James-Madelia wrestling team ended their postseason with a win over Red Rock Central and a loss to Jackson County Central on February 13th. The decisive 64-12 victory over RRC was the first playoff victory in nearly a decade.

#2 ranked Bluejays win at St. James
The Saints dropped an 82-66 league game against Class AA’s #2 ranked Waseca Bluejays on February 14th. Brennan Kern’s 21 points topped the scoring for St. James area, followed by 13 points from Danon Sawatzky and 10 more from Wyatt Haler.

Saint athletes honored for stellar achievements
As the winter sports season winds down, the spotlight on St. James High School student-athletes heats up. Madelyn Malmgren, Talyn Tande, and Brennan Kern all earned significant recognition for outstanding accomplishments.
Mankato rules section gymnastics, Saints beat Faribault
The Section 2A Gymnastics Tournament, held in Mankato on February 13th, saw Mankato West and East go 1-2 in the team standings. St. James ended their season in 8th place.
New Ulm road trip halts Saints’ win streak
The New Ulm Eagles defended their homecourt with a 83-57 conference win over St. James Area on February 13th. Reese Malmgren and Laila Romsdahl scored in double figures for the Saints with 22 and 10 points respectively.

Saints deliver 59-56 loss to LCWM
Another winning team leaves the SJHS Event Center with a loss as St. James Area held on for a non-conference victory over Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on February 10th. Closing out their final season as a Saint, Wyatt Haler, Brennan Kern, and Danon Sawatzky all scored in double figures on Senior Night.

Pushing himself pushed Brennan Kern past 1,000 points
St. James Area boys basketball has surprised several teams during the backside of their 2024-25 schedule, recently knocking off a 15-2 Cedar Mountain team. Brennan Kern is the team’s leading scorer and early in that February 3rd game he achieved the distinction of scoring his 1,000th point.
