Girls win section and Johnson qualifies for state
The 9th Grade League Qualifier was held in Jackson on January 25th and Beck Johnson earned a trip to the state tournament while the St. James-Madelia girls team placed 1st out of 15 teams.

Saints limit Jaguars down stretch for 70-56 win
The St. James Area girls earned a non-conference victory over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther at home on January 27th. The lucky number was 21 as Madelyn Malmgren led the team with 21 points and GHEC/T/ML was held to 21 points in the final half.

Saints take care of tall order against Giants
LeSueur-Henderson brought a lineup with plenty of height advantage but St. James Area adjusted in the final half en route to a 58-56 victory. The non-conference match-up took place on January 25th and Wyatt Haler’s hot shooting sparked the 2nd half comeback.
KNUJ player of week features St. James connections
Saturday mornings are reserved for Player of the Week interviews on KNUJ 860/SAM 107.3 and the January 25th broadcast connected with St. James in a couple of ways. Talyn Tande was named Wrestler of the Week and the Boys Basketball selection had SJHS roots.
SJM girls impress at Rochester century tourney
With the younger wrestlers at the 9th Grade League Qualifier, the rest of the St. James-Madelia girls wrestlers competed at the Rochester Century HS on January 25th. Ellie Romsdahl, Izzy Swanson, and Luella Beckendorf all earned 2nd place during the competition.
Saint gymnasts host New Ulm
A strong New Ulm team with excellent depth took the January 24th dual meet at St. James with a score of 134.575 to 115.125. St. James Area placed four gymnasts in the All-Around competition.
Home wrestling quad yields mixed results
Three teams joined St. James-Madelia for a quadrangular on January 23rd and outcomes were varied. SJM dropped NRHEG, came close to Pipestone, and saw St. Peter post a big win.
New season-high set for gymnasts
The high water mark for the St. James Area gymnasts edged upwards again during their meet with Blue Earth Area on January 21st. Aubrey Romsdahl’s 1st place finish in the Beam event bolstered her runner-up finish for the All-Around competition.
Swanson trey knocks out Luverne
With a dozen ticks on the clock, Journey Swanson pulled the plug on a Cardinal victory, hitting a three pointer to put St. James Area ahead 61-60 on January 25th at Luverne. The Saints led the game for very little but prevailed when needed behind Journey Swanson’s 22 points and 10 points with 9 assists from Jacey Swanson.

Saintettes competition fills event center
A rescheduled competition ended with the St. James Saintettes in the middle of the pack for both divisions on January 24th. The varsity placed 3rd twice and the Saintettes JV team took top honors in the High Kick event.
