Coming off a big win against Redwood Valley, the St. James Area boys basketball team traveled afar to end up on the other side of a 97-51 score at Luverne on January 24th. The lone double-figure scorer for the Saints was Brennan Kern with 17 points.

Event center welcomes Saintettes Extravaganza
Marking their 33rd year of producing the Extravaganza, the Saintettes enjoyed a change in location with the 2025 edition taking place at the St. James High School Event Center on January 18th. Part of a busy stretch for the team, the new surroundings led to a great night for all.
Girl grapplers participate in Pine Island
Forty teams and 330 wrestlers converged at Pine Island for the largest all-girls wrestling tournament in Minnesota on January 18th. St. James placed 32nd overall as a team with Fernanda Esqueda winning a championship and Nicole Martinez placing 2nd.
Lake Crystal trip nets 70-59 victory for GBB
Journey Swanson, Reese Malmgren, and Madelyn Malmgren all broke double figures in a non-conference road win at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on January 20th. Trailing by a point at halftime, the Saints used a late rally to triumph.
Saints move to 11-5 with win at St. Clair
St. James Area completed back-to-back road wins by defeating St. Clair 61-50 on January 21st. Madelyn Malmgren’s 16 points led SJA scoring, Reese Malmgren added 15, and Journey Swanson scored 14 points.

Wrestlers compete at Blue Earth Event and Wabasso tourney
St. James-Madelia wrestlers split matches at a triangular in Blue Earth on January 16th, beating Martin County West/Fairmont 38-35 and losing to Worthington 42-20. Pitted against thirteen opponents, SJM finished 9th at the Wabasso tourney on January 18th and four wrestlers reached the medal platform.

Cyclones wrestle trophy home from united tourney
The youth wrestling team, made up of St. James and Madelia wrestlers, competed in the United Throwdown tournament on January 18th and captured 1st place. Eight teams participated with Tracy ending a distance 2nd place to St. James-Madelia.
Turnovers fail to slow Saints at Redwood
Despite committing 20 more turnovers than Redwood Valley, the Saints avenged an earlier loss by defeating the Cardinals 54-38 on January 16th. Journey Swanson led scoring with 17 points in the Big South Conference road win.

Saints’ deal 80-59 defeat to cards
Dominating over the final half, St. James Area put together an impressive victory at home over Big South Conference opponent Redwood Valley. Down at halftime SJA’s comeback was on the strength of 26 points by Brennan Kern, 13 from Wyatt Haler, and 11 more points by Danon Sawatzky.
