Dennis Shellum, 67, of St. James died on January 28, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in St. James. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Sturm Funeral & Cremation Services where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. The clergy will be Rev. Andy Hermodson-Olsen. DIANE (SANDMEYER) MISSLING
Diane (Sandmeyer) Missling, 74, of St. James died on January 23, 2023, peacefully of natural causes. A Memorial service was held at Augustana Lutheran Church-St. James on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. The clergy was Rev. Mandy France. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Diane Sandmeyer was born September 27, 1948, in St. James to parents Bernard “Ben” and Elvera “Vera” (Nelson) Sandmeyer. She was one of two children her older sister, Eunice, died in infancy. She was a proud student attending District 28 country school with many of her cousins. She graduated from St. James High School in 1966 and went on to attend classes at Mankato State University. She married Gary Missling on September 18, 1971. They lived in Brooklyn Center where they started their family. In 1977, they relocated back to St. James on the Sandmeyer family farm and began their farming career together. Diane was a dedicated mother and farm wife - supporting her family in all that they did. Diane was the church secretary for 18 years at Augustana Lutheran Church where she was also the treasurer and active in many groups. Diane farmed alongside Gary. Tillage, cultivating and coordinating errands, kept the operation running like a good business should. She loved her four boys and the daughters she inherited. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she cherished the times she could cook and bake their favorite things. Diane was one of those people that listened to Christmas music from June to May and didn’t care what people thought about it. Diane will be remembered for her independent spirit, caring nature and compassion for all. Diane is survived by her sons, Brad (Jody), Eric, Matt (Michelle), and Paul (Heather) Missling; and seven grandchildren: Derek, Allyson, Katelyn, Trey, Adr

Gary Missling
Gary Missling, 80, of St. James died on January 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System - St. Mary’s in Rochester. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church- St. James. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. The clergy will be Rev. Mandy France. On April 13, 1942, Gary Willis was born to Willis and Ardath (Falknor) Missling in Mankato. Gary was a farm boy through and through raising sheep and rabbits near Good Thunder. He attended St. John Lutheran School in Good Thunder and completed his education in Mapleton, graduating in 1960. On May 20, 1955, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church. He answered Uncle Sam’s call into the military on February 25, 1964. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash. with the Military Police Division of the Army and was honorably discharged on February 25, 1966. Following his release from his military obligation, he was employed by Scientific Computers in Minneapolis.
