This week is National Fire Prevention Week. The campaign’s purpose is to educate children and adults on how to stay safe in case of a fire. This year’s campaign is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you”, it strives to educate everyone on the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.

The fire departments in Watonwan County encourages everyone to to replace batteries in smoke detectors and CO Alarms twice a year (When you change the clock- change the batteries) and to also check the dates on them as they do have different dates they expire on. If your alarms are more than 7-10 years old, it should be replaced.

Watonwan County has eight fire departments serving the towns and communities in the county.
