Halloween celebrations were taking place all over Watonwan County late last week and early this week. Kids were able to get into the Halloween spirit early by going to parties and parades in Butterfield, Lewisville, and St. James.
Butterfield started the Halloween festivities off with a Halloween parade on Thursday, Oct. 24. Around 120 trick-or-treaters walked around Butterfield to trick-or-treat at local businesses and organizations that were stationed along the route.
Lewisville followed Butterfield with its Halloween party hosted by the Peppy Peppers 4-H club on Saturday evening. Kids were invited to play games, enjoy snacks, and participate in a costume contest.
St. James hosted the last two Halloween events, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church hosted a trunk or treat on Saturday night, over 20 trunks were decorated for kids to trick or treat at. A chili competition was also a part of the event, nine chefs tested their recipes against each other. The winners were; Judges’ Choice: Pastor Schlomer and People’s Choice: (co-champs) Niles Henderson & Steve Lindee. Monday was the last event, the annual Halloween Parade. Sixteen businesses and organizations lined the parade route to hand out candy to all the trick-or-treaters.
