Milo D. Holland

SAINT JAMES – A Celebration of Life Service for Milo D. Holland, 94, of St. James, formerly of rural Butterfield, will be held at a later time.
Milo died peacefully with family and friends on Tuesday afternoon, November 22, 2022, at Season’s Health Care in Trimont. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com.
Milo DeWayne Holland was born to Peter O. and Lena “Hanson” Holland in Watonwan County on April 21, 1928. He grew up on a farmsite a mile and one half east of Odin. He attended country school north of Ormsby. Milo rode a horse he was gifted by the Jacoby’s uphill both ways the one mile to and from school (he always said). He later attended St. James High School and graduated in 1946. He met and married the love of his life Kathleen Carter at Grace Lutheran Church in Ormsby on June 10, 1948, for a mere 71 years. Milo and Kay lived on the family farm south of Butterfield 60 plus years before moving into St. James for Kay’s health reasons. Besides farming Milo was the “ASCS” Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service Office manager in St. James for many years until his retirement. After retirement he served as a Watonwan County Commissioner and also as a ditch and waterway inspector. He enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, some hunting, and following the kids sport events. He announced some of the games at Butterfield in those days. His highlight of the summer was the Butterfield “Thrashing Bee.” Over the years he restored 13 antique tractors in his shop at the farm. He appreciated all the friends and family visits after Kay’s passing on April 27, 2019. Every great-grandchild was a recipient of a wooden horse made by Milo with pride. Milo’s favorite saying was “Get it done now, no sense putting it off.”
