Myrna was born to Mabel (Syverson) and Maynard Westlund of St. James on November 15, 1938. She was baptized and confirmed at 1st Lutheran Church of St. James. She graduated from St. James High School in 1957, and two weeks after graduation she married the love of her life, Eldon Quiring of Butterfield. They were married 64 years, and had four children – Randy, Steve, Cary, and Meridee. Myrna enjoyed working alongside Eldie on the farm, and learned to drive
Myrna enjoyed working alongside Eldie on the farm, and learned to drive most machinery except the combine. They milked 60-90 grade A cows in a parlor system for 30 years, and she helped milk and fed calves and livestock.
She loved Jesus. Around age 12 she made the decision to follow Christ, and in 1987 she was baptized upon public confession of faith at Kansas Lake. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1
Myrna was an excellent seamstress, sewing her wedding dress and all the attendants’ dresses. She took advanced tailoring classes and sewed coats and suits. She took swimming lessons, advancing to Sr. Lifesaving, and played snare drum in high school as well as the St. James City Band. She served as a cook for two years at the Methodist Decision Hills Bible Camp near Spicer, MN, with up to 120 campers. She was a 4-H leader for 21 years, did volunteer driving for Watonwan Co. Senior Transportation, and was a member of Butterfield Community Club Auxillary.
Myrna loved to sing. She and Eldie sang duets for many funerals and weddings. She also sang in many sextets, trios and duets. They greatly enjoyed spending 13 winters in Arizona where she played piano for a choir, quartet, and many other musical groups.
One of her favorite things to do was taking great pride in mowing all the lawns on the farm and keeping the weeds down with her trusty John Deere. Myrna lived a life devoted to her home and family. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildrens’ concerts and sporting events. She enjoyed when her children and grandchildren all came home for the holidays.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon; children, Randy (Irene) Quiring, Steve (Kathy) Quiring, Cary (Jamie) Quiring, and Meridee (John) Paulson; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Quiring, Adam Quiring, Carly Paulson, Sam Paulson, Sara Quiring, and Mark Quiring; and great grandson, Jackson Quiring, and many nieces and nephews.
