Ruth Schmillen

Ruth Schmillen, 105, of St. James passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society Pleasant View in St. James.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in St. James with Rev. David Lick officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation will be at the church one hour before services on Tuesday.

Ruth Lorene Walters was born in Windom on August 16, 1917, the daughter of Kenneth and Elsie (Riedesel) Walters. She grew up in Windom where she graduated from high school in 1935. She moved to St. James in 1941, where she managed a beauty shop. On September 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Paul ‘Zeke’ Schmillen. The couple made their home in St. James where Ruth worked at JC Penney’s, Hintgen Drug, Montgomery Wards and Minnegasco until her retirement. Ruth was a Past President of the VFW Auxiliary, member of the Extension Club, and Presbyterian Women’s Association. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling with a group of friends all over the U.S. including Alaska. She particularly enjoyed her trip to the Holy Land and spending time with her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Jane Schmillen of Mankato, granddaughter Dawn (Auggie) Moothedan of Florida, great-grandchildren; Joshua, Priya, Elijah and Noah Moothedan and two nephews and one neice. She is preceded in death by her husband, son Jim, parents, and brother Glen.
