Labor Day is the one day a year Godahl’s population grows tenfold, because of its annual Godahl Day celebration.

People return each year to see friends and family and to have fun listening to the different bands, playing a round of bingo, watching the parade and seeing the crowning of the Queen of Godahl. Two new activities were added for all ages to enjoy, grain truck fishing and a kickball tournament.

“I believe the 2 new things we added this year were well received. The ‘grain truck fishing’ had a long line and the kids enjoyed fishing with their bamboo poles getting their line into the back of the grain truck, where they received a ‘prize’,” Godahl Recreation member Kari Miest said. “The kickball tournament had 4 teams competing this year, which went great. Fun was had by young and adults! We had some close games – the Olson/Rossbach crew won the tournament.”

This year’s queen candidates were Ava Rathman & Hannah Westman. People were able to vote all day for either candidate and after the parade the votes were tallied. Then 2023 Queen of Godahl Keeley Runge crowned Ava Rathman, daughter of Ryan and Angela Rathman, as the 2024 Queen of Godahl.

Overall people of all ages enjoyed the final day of summer at Godahl Day thanks to all the work Godahl Recreation does to make this event happen each year.

“We are thankful for all the volunteers in the community, as it does take a lot of work to pull Godahl Day together – and we have a great group of board members also who put in a lot of time and effort,” Miest said. “We also are thankful for all those who come out to support and enjoy Godahl Days!”
