Vernell Mae Frederickson

Vernell Mae Frederickson, 88, of St. James passed away on March 9, 2022, in Minneapolis.

Visitation was on Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, St. James and continued on Monday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Service were held at the First Lutheran Church, St. James, on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 11 a.m.

The clergy was Rev. Andy Hermodson-Olsen and Rev. Matthew Seegert. Interment was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.

Vernell Mae (Sorbel) Frederickson, 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Minneapolis surrounded by her loving family. Vernell was born on May 2, 1933 to Ingvald and Helga (Johnson) Sorbel in rural Hanska. She was baptized and confirmed at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. She attended District 49 country school (1st – 8th grade) and graduated from St. James High School in 1951. Vernell married Harvey Junius Frederickson on December 8, 1951 at Lake Hanska Church Parsonage. She was employed with Scherr-Tumico/S-T Industries in St. James for over 47-years (1951 – 1998). During Harvey and Vernell’s 48-years of marriage, they were blessed with 4 daughters and 1 son, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church in St. James where she co-chaired the funeral lunch committee and helped with the annual Fall Bazaar. In addition, she was a member of the St. James Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries. Vernell enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing, traveling, gardening/canning (best pickles ever!), crocheting, reading and Suduko.

Vernell is survived by her children, Val (Mel), Sheila (Anton), Trent (Joleen) and Nikki; grandchildren, Toby (Kristin), Tonya (Tony), Ben (Stephanie), Nate (Lisa), Abby (Matt), Katie (Ryan) and Ashley (Mitchell); great-grandchildren, Olivia, Cale, Addison, Bentley, MacKenzie, Adrian, Isla, Oliver and Maggie, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Harvey; daughter, Nancy; parents, Helga and Ingvald; brothers, Irving, Clinton, Leonard, Glenn, Eldon and Richard; great-granddaughter, Alana and son-in-law Yannick.
