Answer: A Minnesota Farm Work license allows a 15-year-old to drive alone only to perform farm work for his or her parent during daylight hours, within 20 miles of the farmhouse and in cities with populations of less than 100,000.

New law passed

In the last week Governor Walz has been signing a few high-interest bills into law. The most talked about one is the recreational cannabis bill. Minnesota follows 22 other states legalizing recreational cannabis use and growth, manufacturing, and lawful sale of products.

HAROLD “BUDDY” ROMSDAHL

BUTTERFIELD: A Funeral Service for Harold “Buddy” Romsdahl, 95, of rural Butterfield will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 545 250th St., rural Odin. Burial will be held at Kansas Lake Cemetery, County Road #10 in rural Butterfield with full military honors by Donald V. Larson V.F.W. Post #9607 of Butterfield. Buddy was called to his eternal rest on Friday morning, June 2, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Luncheon following the service at the Odin City Hall and Community Center, Odin. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, Sherburn and Welcome. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com. Harold farmed his entire life except for service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He embodied “family farmer,” by his commitment, love and devotion to his family. Harold was a devoted to his church and shared the Gospel with his strong tenor voice and through his advocacy for social, racial and economic justice. He lived his deep faith through his openhearted hospitality, compassion and kindness to all. The last five years of his life were lived in a wheelchair at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Mt. Lake, where he received and reciprocated, respect, loving care and compassion an demonstrated his courage, deep faith and integrity. His warmth, big smile, hearty laugh and genuine love will be missed by his family and all who were blessed to know him. Trevor Dennis Randall, 45, of St. James died at home peacefully surrounded by his family on June 1, 2023.

The Pollinator Ambassadors plant a pathway for pollinators

Protecting pollinators and their living spaces has been an active effort in St. James this spring. Discussion about No Mow May started last year and was approved earlier this spring. Between the city’s discussion and approval of No Mow May, the Watonwan County 4-H formed a new program, the Pollinator Ambassadors Program, in February.

Perla Ibarra and Claire Watson crowned Miss St. James

Miss St. James Lunden Swanson and Emma Schmidt crowned this year’s Miss St. James on Wednesday, May 17 during the senior scholarship ceremony. Perla Ibarra and Claire Watson will be representing the city and community as Miss St. James this year.
