Finstad wins special election, county commissioner candidates set

Brad Finstad of New Ulm, a graduate of St. James High School, won the Aug. 9 special election to fill the final months of the 1st Congressional District seat in the U.S House of Representatives held by the late Jim Hagedorn. Republican Finstad received 59,788 votes while the DFL candidate, Jeff Ettinger received 55,155.

After St. James, many athletes find success at college level

Lee Carlson Achievements at the high school level often signal the end of athletic competition for most, but The Plaindealer had a chance to visit with several local student- athletes preparing for another year of competition. Academic demands, a higher level of competition, and finding confidence were common challenges across involvement with a variety of sports.

I don’t think I mentioned this before but I am old. I graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1973. There wasn’t much for girls to do in those days. A couple of girls sports were added around that time but it was too late for me—I was already not athletic.

U of M Raptor Center comes to Watonwan County
