St. James graduate is part of Harvard Business School experience

The middle of June included a trip to Harvard for Irma Marquez, joining other young leaders from Minnesota to be part of a leadership opportunity. Ten were selected from Minnesota to joining cohorts from other states in the Young American Leaders Program (YALP).

Age healthier, breathe easier

Did you know that Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death in the United States, claiming approximately many lives each year? COPD causes many hospitalizations and hospital emergency room visits. COPD includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema – lung diseases which frequently coexist and are characterized by obstruction to air flow, making it difficult to breathe. Smokers are particularly at risk of developing COPD. However, it has also been linked to workplace exposure to dust and fumes. Symptoms include chronic cough, increased mucus production, chest tightness, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.

Summer Rec baseball competition continues

Action in the Summer Rec League moves towards a more balanced level with Siem Construction leading at 8-3-1, Pioneer Bank at 5-5-2, and NuWay/K & S at 3-8-1. One more week remains and playoffs will commence on July 22, behind the high school, due to the Legion playoffs.

Legion nine rallies after rough start in tourney with second round squeaker

St. James Legion entered the Division II SW Sub-State Legion Baseball Tournament as the top seed but was tripped up 12-9 in extra innings by Jackson in the first game on July 14. The squad stayed alive behind the complete game pitching effort of Jack Westman, defeating USC/Wells 5-4 on July 15.

If someone is up in your grill, they’re confrontational. If you’re getting grilled, someone’s asking you a lot of intense questions.

Madelia Health Foundation 5K Run/1M Walk was success

The Madelia Health Foundation 5K Run/1M Walk took place on Saturday, July 9 during Madelia Park Days. As in previous years, Anderson Race Management co-sponsored the event and provided the chipped race bibs, the start/finish line, snacks, and their race expertise. It was a beautiful day for the 5K, and 126 people between the ages of 5 and 75 registered to participate this year.
