Aimme Aleman wins District Spelling second year in a row
Spelling the most words correctly was the key element of what was happening in the high school's little theater on Thursday morning. St. James 5th through 8th graders were in there competing in the District Spelling Bee.
Cec and John Kulseth
This month’s interview is with Cec and John Kulseth, who have lived in St. James for 57 years. They will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 8. Being high school sweethearts, they have a beautiful Valentine’s story.

Normandale Community College announced its 2021 Fall Semester Dean’s list. Students named were enrolled in at least nine credits and had achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5. Madison Zavala of Madelia, was named to the Dean’s list.

Smells of February
“The kitchen smells like spring,” I thought to myself the other day. Then, “No, not spring. It smells like January and February.” The blue hyacinth we’ve been forcing is in full, fragrant bloom. Next time I go to Aldi I’ll pick up another one–white or pink. I think we had four last year.
Multicultural Fiesta planning

Outback Bowl review
A group from St. James recently performed in the pre-game and halftime shows at the Outback Bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida, on Jan. 1. The game was between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Arkansas Razorbacks with Arkansas coming out on top, 10-24.
