
Cyclones wrestle trophy home from united tourney
The youth wrestling team, made up of St. James and Madelia wrestlers, competed in the United Throwdown tournament on January 18th and captured 1st place. Eight teams participated with Tracy ending a distance 2nd place to St. James-Madelia.
Turnovers fail to slow Saints at Redwood
Despite committing 20 more turnovers than Redwood Valley, the Saints avenged an earlier loss by defeating the Cardinals 54-38 on January 16th. Journey Swanson led scoring with 17 points in the Big South Conference road win.

Saints’ deal 80-59 defeat to cards
Dominating over the final half, St. James Area put together an impressive victory at home over Big South Conference opponent Redwood Valley. Down at halftime SJA’s comeback was on the strength of 26 points by Brennan Kern, 13 from Wyatt Haler, and 11 more points by Danon Sawatzky.

Raise above to create a positive school environment
Cory Greenwood a top-rated youth motivational speaker made a stop at Butterfield-Odin High School on Wednesday, Jan. 15. 300 students from Butterfield-Odin, Comfrey and Martin County West Schools attended the program.

Coffee with Mayor Chris Whitehead
Mayor Chris Whitehead held his first Coffee with the Mayor as Mayor on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Community members and city employees were able to get to know Whitehead and discuss topics like Meadowlark Prairie Outdoor Labs, the Rail House, and housing in St. James.

South Dakota State University announced the students who were honored on the fall semester Dean’s List. Overall, 3,901 students from 40 states and 32 foreign nations are on the list. More than 1,600 students received a 4.0 GPA, and those are indicated with an asterisk.
