Food and Friends – a community food truck event
Give yourself a break from meal planning and treat yourself to something from area food truck vendors at the “Food and Friends” food truck event on Wednesday, July 13, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the main parking lot of First Lutheran Church (719 6th Avenue South). “Food and Friends” is a community event organized by the church’s Outreach Board to invite all in the community to gather together around a meal time, and, at the same time, support some of the food vendors in our area. “We hope that folks will enjoy socializing with each other – visiting with old friends, and making new friends,” commented one of the event organizers.

Commissioners examine options at July meeting as budget nears
Representatives from Watonwan County’s five districts met for their regular meeting the morning of July 5 to gather information and weigh options for the future. Presenters included Bryan Stading from RCEF and Teal Spellmann, the County Engineer.

Les Zellmann named National High School Tennis Coach of the Year
On June 22 in Des Moines, Iowa, coaches from around the entire country came together for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Awards Banquet. During the evening one Athletic Director and eighteen coaches were recognized for their outstanding contribution and dedication to the sport they coached. During the year a committee evaluates all of the nominations submitted from across the country. Eight finalists in each sport are invited to the Awards Banquet. The program consists of a brief bio of the accomplishments and achievements that each coach had earned during their coaching career. Each one of the finalists had amazing records and team honors. Every one of the nominated coaches were very deserving to be honored as a final eight.

First Lutheran Church honors pastors
Pastor Andrew Hermodson-Olsen of First Lutheran Church, St. James, celebrated the 35th Anniversary of his Ordination on Sunday, June 19. On Sunday, June 26 the congregation wished Pastor Matthew Seegert and family farewell and Godspeed, as he has been called to serve at Atonement Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin. St. Paul’s to install Pastor
On Sunday, July 10, Seminary Graduate Jacob Schlomer will be ordained and installed into the Public Ministry as the Pastor of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church and School in St. James. This special service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 10. All are welcome to St Paul’s to worship on this special occasion.
